Used Corian Countertops

Working with used Counter tops can save you money. If you have the tools for medium skill level wood working then this is something that you should be able to handle. I looked on Craig’s List to find used Corian counter tops. you can find several people that are trying to sell ones that they have replaced their existing ones with something else or just a change in color. I had a project that we wanted to update the existing Mauve colored tops with something newer. I was able to find a nice amount of Corian tops that was enough that I could cut and make changes to make the kitchen look new. I got about $ 2000.00 worth of Corian for about $50.00 plus gas. All of the runs I had was straight so this was a easy fix. I made the cuts to allow the correct overhang. You want to make sure you have enough top left for scrap so you can make the ends to finish you edge. I used a regular circular saw to make the cuts using a straight edge and a carbide blade (a higher tooth count is better). The ends can be epoxied together so you can router the edge with a variable speed router. I used a three HP Porter Cable. Once the ends have been epoxied with the scrap pieces they need to be belt sanded smooth so the router bit will ride smooth. The best thing to do is match the profile of the other edges. This may take some time because I had to go to a few stores to find the profile bit to match. Using a orbital palm sander you can smooth the edges with 100 grit paper to roughly finish. use 220 grit to final smooth and you may even use a buffer to polish the edges. On our project I didn’t need to use a buffer. Blemishes may also be removed in this manner.
